Today is Lauren's My Timeless Template Challenge (MTTC05)!! If you are new to Lauren's challenges, she switches them up each Saturday (e.g. color, inspiration, sketch, template, technique), and the template challenge is extra special. Lauren designs templates for Papertrey Ink and she shows us how to create some AMAZING packaging every month! She is a whiz...
Today's template challenge entails using one of her templates from PTI (retail is $5 with instant download after purchase, OR you can us one of two awesome FREE templates!! Click HERE for my project using the free stocking template). The second part of the challenge is to make something with "Back to School" in mind. Use your imagination...it doesn't have to be apple related :] I steered clear of the apples on purpose (thanks Alicia for putting me back on track :)
I used Lauren's brand new Tucked Away template to create a pretty package for my homemade bookmark! The bookmark can be for teacher or student. In this case, my book mark is for my daughter because she's 15 and has too many teachers to keep up with! LOL The book mark is sooo simple...it took about 3 minutes to make. I used craft thread and beads...nothing else. I doubled the thread and tied a knot next to each bead that I wanted to stay put.
I kept the box relatively clean and simple, yet girly. I used the Sizzix Flower, Daisy die to created my flowers. I cut the perforated lines between the petals and curled them with my finger. I sewed the button through the two flowers and hot glued it to the ribbon I adhered to my box.
I created the sentiment using a rub on from the SU! Love and Happiness set. I also used the SU! Oval All stamp set to create the border of both oval layers. It's hard to see in the photo, but the base layer was stamped using PTI's Background Basics; Text Style in their Fresh Snow Pigment Ink.
This pretty little box houses my bookmark beautifully! After the bookmark is put to use, Tia can use the box to store some of her other treasures :]
Hope you can play along this weekend!! If you do, be sure to use keyword MTTC05 in the online galleries and link your creation on Lauren's blog using Mr. Linky. You don't want to miss what the rest of the team created!!
<---- Check out their blogs using the links in my left sidebar :O)
Have a great weekend! I'm off to finish up school shopping today...but I'll be back tomorrow with another project I finished up. Thanks for stopping by!

Your box is so pretty! Love the colors and patterns! The bookmark is so cool! Love it! Great job with the challenge!
Kristen that bookmark is so pretty! What a wonderful to show your daughter that you know she is growing up. My girls being 5 and 8 are still all about the Disney and the Nickelodeon characters ;) so no elegant bookmarks for them... YET!
I love how you dressed your template box up with the layered flowers and floating butterflies. Perfect for tucking away the little treasures she decides to hold onto this year. You are a sweet mom and one creative lady!
Love what you created! I know by having 3, soon to be 4 sister-in-laws that are teachers and several friends that sometimes you get tired of the same old apple this and that so I think this is great! What a neat idea on creating a simple book mark. Now I think I should go back and make a little book mark to go with my gift on a paper clip.....see all the ideas we get from each other!
Have a great weekend! Hope to talk to you again soon!!! PS I got to go to Michaels yesterday, but I was sooo tired that I didn't get near as many deals as you did!
What a great, useful gift! I love the template design too - I really like the enchanted evening with the aqua mist :) Hope you don't mind - I'm definitely going to scrap-lift this idea for gifts. Hope you are having a wonderful weekend!
Oh, Kristen! This is such a lovely project! Your bookmark is so creative and unique! I'd take this gift over an apple any day!
Kristen this is breathtakingly beautiful. Love the soft colors and I adore that bookmark - I must work on those myself. What did you use as the actual thread, string etc? THe tissue pillow is perfect - ROckin awesome job with this challenge - love the unique "take" on back to school.
Hi Kristin first of all I would like to thank you for stopping by my blog and commenting. I really appreciated that. Second of all I love the idea of the bookmark you made. Simple and adorable. And with the help of the beads you are sure to be able to hold your page, unlike a simple paper version. I may just have to 'steal' your idea. Thanks for sharing.
What a gorgeous gift! that bookmark is beautiful!
